security audit

A careful review of a system by experts specifically looking for security weaknesses.

A security audit is a deliberate inspection — of code, design, and configuration — aimed at finding vulnerabilities before attackers do. Public or repeated audits add credibility because many independent eyes have probed the system. Note that surviving audits reduces risk but never proves a system is perfectly secure.
